چکیده
It is now generally believed that the majority of strokes are caused by emboli from distal sites, rather than by local haemorrhagic or occlusive processes. The discovery that emboli of various types can be detected using Doppler ultrasound as they are carried through the major cerebral arteries has led to a new field of study, which appears to have considerable potential both in research and clinical settings. The basic principle of detection is extremely simple: if an embolus back-scatters more power than the surrounding blood in which it is moving, then the transitory increase in power can be detected and measured. Questions that arise from this principle surround the circumstances under which such power increases can be detected, and whether the size and composition of the embolus can be inferred from such measurements. The detectability of an embolus is determined by many factors including its size and composition, the ultrasound frequency, the size of the Doppler sample volume, the embolus trajectory and its interaction with the ultrasound beam. In general even relatively small gas bubbles will be detected, but some larger solid emboli may be missed. With regard to size and composition, several techniques have been suggested as being useful for characterising composition, and whilst in general considerable progress has been made in this direction there are still many challenges in distinguishing between large particulate emboli and small gaseous emboli. Unfortunately the sizing of emboli remains a distant goal.

Automated Learning and Adaptive Knowledge Systems Homework 1D Learning
The purpose and goal of this assignment was to design and implement a small system to predict a class of a single numerical variable in a binomial class problem. In order to do this, it was requested to implement or to think of one or more “1D classifiers”, discussing their computational complexities in the learning phases, the performances on the given dataset, the differences and similarities...
متن کاملSimulation of municipal landfill leachate movement in soil by HYDRUS-1D model
Different numerical and analytical models are presently available that provide the tools to predict pollutant and water transfer processes between the soil surface and the groundwater level. Among the existing models, the Hydrus-1D model has been used for years in the prediction of water and pollutants transfer in the unsaturated zone. The main purpose of this paper was to model the movement of...
متن کاملThe trim loss concentration in one-dimensional cutting stock problem (1D-CSP) by defining a virtual cost
Nowadays, One-Dimensional Cutting Stock Problem (1D-CSP) is used in many industrial processes and re-cently has been considered as one of the most important research topic. In this paper, a metaheuristic algo-rithm based on the Simulated Annealing (SA) method is represented to minimize the trim loss and also to fo-cus the trim loss on the minimum number of large objects. In this method, the 1D-...
متن کاملEstimation of zeolite application effect on solute transport parameters at different soils using HYDRUS-1D model
ABSTRACT-Application of models for simulation of solute and pollutants transport in soil can reduce time and costs for remediation process. HYDRUS-1D model was developed to simulate the one–dimensional flow of soil water, heat, solute and viruses in variably saturated–unsaturated porous media. The objective of this investigation is to determine the solute transport parameters in disturbed soil ...

A 33-year-old woman with a 3-year history of idiopathic CCP and recurrent attacks of acute pancreatitis was referred to our institution for PD stones management. Prior attempts of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) approach had failed. Plain abdominal X ray showed calcified stones in the pancreatic area (Fig. 1A). Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) demonstrate...
متن کاملMultivariate regression approaches for surrogate-based diffeomorphic estimation of respiratory motion in radiation therapy.
Breathing-induced location uncertainties of internal structures are still a relevant issue in the radiation therapy of thoracic and abdominal tumours. Motion compensation approaches like gating or tumour tracking are usually driven by low-dimensional breathing signals, which are acquired in real-time during the treatment. These signals are only surrogates of the internal motion of target struct...
